Program Overview:
The Master in Art with a concentration in Art Education is oriented to teaching of art and leadership in elementary and secondary schools. The Art Education program is designed to provide a deeper social and contextual understanding of the teaching of art and promoting leadership in the schools and within the field of art education through: (1) increasing awareness of the problems facing art education in a variety of settings. (2) developing an aesthetic philosophy that recognizes the humanistic influences of art in the lives of individuals: (3) augmenting awareness through research in art education; and (4) enhancing comprehension and competence in area of human visual expression.
Students who have a baccalaureate degree in art education or other appropriate baccalaureate, and hold certification to teach art, will complete 30 semester hours of graduate work. Course work is rooted in theory and reflects current directions and literature in the filed. The field of art education, in the contemporary world, touches upon many diverse content areas, such as psychology, humanities, and interdisciplinary studies, as well as the more traditional content areas such as studio, art history and contextual.

Admission Requirements: Fall start only program
- Application submitted to the School of Graduate Studies and Research: Deadline for application submission is four weeks prior to fall start date (August 30th 2010).
- $30.00 application fee ($7 is former EUP student)
- Submit an official transcript reflecting baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution to:

Edinboro, PA 16444 - 2.80 overall QPA; For students with a QPA below 2.80, scores from either the (MAT) Miller Analogies Test or (GRE) Graduate Record Examination, are required.
- Copy of valid teacher certificate in art OR Complete a program of study approved by the Dean of Education, leading to certification as a secondary school teacher prior to completion of the Master's Degree. Teacher Certification portion of the program is only available on-campus. Must pass the PRAXIS I exams before being admitted into the certification program.
- If you you are interested in transferring credits from another degree you will need to fill out the Transfer Credit Form.
