Program Overview:
The online RN-BSN program provides students with education in the areas of community/public health nursing, nursing leadership and management and applications of nursing research and evidence-based care. The program is designed for currently licensed RNs whose pre-licensure program was either a 2-year associate degree or from a hospital-based diploma school. The program can be completed in two years, but may also be taken on a part-time basis. Generally, RNs with at least a bachelor's degree will have better job prospects than those without a bachelor's degree and have greater opportunities for advancement and specialization.
It is the philosophy of the nursing faculty that we can best facilitate social and professional mobility for the RN student through entrance and placement into this baccalaureate program. The faculty believes that the RN student is motivated and brings previous education and experience as a foundation for baccalaureate education. The RN student is encouraged to capitalize on this motivation and background to achieve as much advanced standing as possible.

In recognition of nursing courses taken during a pre-licensure program, 40 credits will be awarded toward the 120 credit degree program requirement. This credit will be awarded following successful completion of NURS 409 as outlined in the PA Articulation Model. Additionally, all courses taken at previously attended institutions will be evaluated for transfer credit. Advanced standing can be achieved through transfer of college credits, CLEP examinations, and/or competency examinations for general education and supporting courses. Competency examinations can be attempted one time only. If the attempt is not satisfactory (a passing grade was not achieved) the course must be taken. University policy requires that the last 30 credits for the baccalaureate degree must be taken at Edinboro University. Nursing (NURS) courses must be taken at Edinboro and account for 16 of these credits. Credits achieved through competency examinations can be applied to fulfill this residency requirement. CLEP examinations, transfer credit and credit awarded for licensure cannot be used to meet this residency requirement.NOTE: RNs with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree can apply for the Innovative Nursing Program for a second baccalaureate degree.
